Every May you can look forward to the Kite Festival at Overlook Park in White Rock. We went for the first time after hearing how "amazing" this event is and were not disappointed. The kite festival encompasses all good things what you want for a family outing.
Free. Each kid can build a kite - with a large amount of volunteers to take them through the process so they are not waiting in line forever.

Abundant (close) parking. We went at 1:00 - right when the event was in full swing - and were happy to find lots of close parking.
Nice people. My four year old doesn't know how to fly a kite without it getting tangled up with another kite - and everyone was very understanding and accommodating.
Although there was a food stand selling Navajo fry bread and tacos, we brought a picnic lunch and sat in the park for hours enjoying the kites, the people watching and the breezy weather. This will be an event we always remember and always return to.
